The State of Organizations 2026

Published by McKinsey & Company, not Oxford SBM

A McKinsey survey of more than 10,000 senior executives across 15 countries and 16 industries on the forces reshaping how organisations operate, compete and create value.

Key findings

Summarised from the published report. For full methodology and data, read the original at McKinsey & Company.

  • 72% of leaders say their organisations are not fully ready to face the changes ahead, despite understanding the direction of change.
  • As AI takes on more execution work, the distinctly human dimensions of leadership, judgement, empathy, psychological safety and purpose, become primary drivers of resilience and advantage.
  • Leaders who engage in regular self-reflection are nearly twice as likely to believe their organisation can adapt quickly (30% versus 17%).
